Important Travel Tips for Getting To Uni

We hope you’re looking forward to the start of term and are prepared for the start of your new life at the UOG…

Starting university can be a daunting enough experience in itself, so additional stress is probably something you could do without in the first few weeks of term. So here’s a tip from us to help you out – leave your car at home!

At the start of term there is a very high demand for car parking spaces on all campuses with average waiting times of over 20 minutes – the last thing you need when you should be enrolling or in your first lecture! We are doing everything we can to reduce the pressure and congestion where possible. For example, we’ve made induction timetables available online ahead of the start of the new academic year, to avoid causing traffic bottlenecks by everyone turning up on campus at once in the first weeks of term.

However, the university strongly recommends that you consider alternative travel arrangements to driving wherever possible. All campuses are easily accessible by public transport, with regular train services running between Merthyr and Cardiff every 15 minutes at peak times and frequent bus services between Pontypridd and Llantrisant stopping approximately every 15 minutes right outside the university.

If public transport, walking or cycling is an option, please do not bring a car. Full details of all the public transport routes available to you are available on the University’s travel web pages (http://glamlife.glam.ac.uk/pages/3103-travelling-to-campus)

If public transport is not an option at all, try arranging a car share. Very soon, you will be able to use the new Glamlife classifieds board to arrange a car share.

If driving is your only option, you can still avoid lengthy delays by using one of the Public Car parks in Pontypridd. There are three public car parks in Sardis Road, Berw Road and the Goods Yard all at £1 for 4 hours or £2 for all day. Full details and directions can be found on the university travel pages http://inform.glam.ac.uk/travel-for-staff/

If you’re heading for Treforest campus, you could also park at Glyntaff and get the shuttlebus, details available at http://inform.glam.ac.uk/shuttlebus/

Don't get stuck in the traffic and spoil your first day!
